How do I Transfer My Farm Works Program to a New Computer?

  1. Make a backup on your old computer. This needs be onto a storage device that is compatible with both the old and new computers. An excellent option for this is a USB drive (if the old computer has USB ports). These are relatively inexpensive and can hold multiple backups.

How do I Make a Backup of my Project

  • To backup your project, select Make Backup from the File menu. The Backup Project box will appear.
  • Click the Browse button to select the drive or directory. If a floppy disk is available, it will be selected by default.
  • From the new window, select the diskette or drive that will receive the backup file. (Note: If you are saving the backup to a CD, you may have to 1st make the backup to the computer’s hard disk and then use the CD writer program that came with your computer to put the backup onto the CD.)
  • Enter a File Name where indicated to name the backup: SmithFarm 5-21-05, for example.
  • Click the Save button to return to the Backup Project box.
  • Select the Compression level for your data. Compression shrinks your data so that it takes less disk space. Normal compression is best for everyday use.
  • To erase all other data on the diskette, select Wipe Disk (erase files) from the Disk Prep (floppy only) drop-down menu. This option is only for use with a 3 ½” removable diskette.
  • If you would like to Include Backdrops and/or Photos in your backup, check the options to include them. Selecting these items may significantly increase the size of your backup file.
  • Click OK to start the backup.
  1. Check the backup to make sure that it is “good” by restoring it into a test project on the old computer.
  2. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 for any additional projects.
  3. Install the Farm Works program on to the new computer.
