Iowa Geographic Map Server

This site provides free access to Iowa geographic map data through an on-line map viewer and through GIS web map server (WMS) connections. The site was developed by the Iowa State University Geographic Information Systems Support and Research Facility in cooperation with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The site was first launched in March 1999.

Digital Ortho Photo Quads

The USGS provides Digital Ortho Photo Quads (DOQs). These are high resolution image files that are available for a fee. When going to the website use "Photography (Aerial)" for the Category and "Digital Orthophoto Quadrangles" for the Data Set. If the maps will be used with Site, be sure to order them in the "Geographic Tagged Image File Format". This data includes GPS referencing information that will be used to automatically calibrate the images in Site. Note that maps can be ordered via CD or downloaded from the website.

Geo Community Translators
