Answer to the Question

"Cannot Import Until Geographic Coordinates Have Been Set."

There are a lot of you out there that are converting your old Farm Trac maps over to Farm Trac+. Since Farm Trac+ actually has GPS built into it's maps, it won't work with your current maps until you set geographic coordinates. You will probably notice this when you go to import USGS Road & Waterway Maps. If you have an old, unreferenced Farm Trac map, you will get the message, "Cannot Import Until Geographic Coordinates Have Been Set".

Registering a 0,0 Coordinate

The first step for geo-referencing maps is to register a 0,0 coordinate on the drawn map. Use the Geographic Coordinate tool (select Preferences from the File menu then select Geographic Coordinates) to register this coordinate on any spot of the map.

Here's what to do:

  1. Go to File, Preferences, Geographic Coordinates.
  2. Your pointer will have a globe attached.
  3. Click in the middle of your screen (it doesn't matter where you click
  1. A coordinates box will pop up. Do not enter anything in the description. There will be 3 boxes next to "N" and 3 boxes next to "W" . Enter a zero in each of those boxes and click "OK".
  2. Now go to File, Map Setup and continue to import the quads.

When you set your coordinates to 0,0 your main farming layer will be at that location. After you have imported the quads (roads, waterways, railroads ect) you will have to set the coordinates on your main farming layer so that they will line up with the roads and waterways that you just imported.
