Importing Quad Maps from the Internet

With Farm Trac+ and Farm Site Professional, you have the ability to download free government road, waterway and other map data known as "quads" from the internet into Farm Works.  Once you have this map data, you can use other maps such as Microsoft Terraserver imagery to create field boundary maps.  The option of downloading the US Quad Maps from the Internet was added in Version 11.3.

Before opening Farm Works, complete the following:

  1. Insert the Farm Works Program CD. If the installation splash screen appears, click on Exit.
  2. Connect to the Internet.

Within Farm Works:

  1. Go to File –> Map Setup.
  2. Select your state and CD-Rom drive. Be sure to check the boxes for Import United States Map and Activate USGS Quad Map. Click OK.
  3. From the displayed US Map, locate your area.   Left-click on the yellow "quad" for your farm.  If you need to select more than one yellow quad, hold down the <Shift> or <Ctrl> key on your keyboard and click on each quad (you can also click and drag to select a group of quads).  Once you have the necessary quads selected, right-click and select Import Quads.
  4. Choose the type(s) of data that you are importing (See image below).
  5. Under “Source”, select <Automatic Internet Download>.
  6. Click OK. The selected quads will be downloaded and automatically displayed.

If you do not have Internet access, the Quad maps for your state(s) can be purchased from Farm Works by contacting our sales staff at 1-800-225-2848, or using the on-line order form.
