iPAQ 2190 ROM Update

Fixes

  • Corrects issues with the English ROM image where certain applications did not execute properly.
  • Corrects issue where the iPAQ Pocket PC stops responding (locks up) when a Secure Digital (SD) card is inserted and the handheld cannot be Powered ON, which may cause the battery to be discharged.
  • Corrects issue where the ActiveSync profile is lost when multiple units are synchronized using the same PC.
  • Corrects issue that occurs with serial communication at lower baud rates.
  • Corrects issue where scrolling through Tasks items does not work.
  • Corrects issue where iTask cannot close the Search program.
  • Corrects issue where the body of an email disappears when HP ProtectTools is enabled.
  • Corrects issue with the Traditional Chinese language version where ChangJie character input is not displayed correctly when HP ProtectTools is enabled.
  • Corrects issue with Secure Digital I/O (SDIO) where a WiFi card does not load or unload correctly after resuming from Standby mode.
  • Corrects intermittent issue with high-speed SDIO WiFi data streaming where the iPAQ Pocket PC stops responding (locks up).
  • Corrects issue where SDIO 56K modem does not work.

Enhancements

  • Provides the ActiveSync Mode Switch utility. This utility enables the ActiveSync connection type to be switched between the HP iPAQ Pocket PC and the host PC. If the host PC has problems with the ActiveSync or VPN tunnel connection, try switching the connection type.
  • Links the Power button backlight control to the system backlight control.
  • Provides HP ProtectTools update version 2.1.0.2659.

Prerequisites

  • Microsoft ActiveSync 4.1 (or later) is required.

HOW TO USE:

  • Download the SoftPaq.exe to a directory on your hard drive.
  • Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the ROM update files to a directory. (NOTE: This directory should not contain any file or folder from any previous ROM upgrade.)
  • Establish an Activesync connection between the handheld and host PC using the USB connection.
  • The ROM Update Utility (hpRUU.exe) starts automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the ROM upgrade.

NOTE: Once the update is complete, the SOFTPAQ.EXE file downloaded can be deleted, if desired.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

  • During the update, the ROM Update Utility will:
    • Query the handheld for current ROM image information.
    • Validate that the new ROM image is compatible with the handheld.
    • Automatically place the handheld in Flash mode.
    • Update the ROM image on the handheld.
  • IMPORTANT: Disable the Standby and Hibernation modes on the host PC. If Standby or Hibernation mode is activated during the upgrade process, a critical error may occur.
  • IMPORTANT: Plan enough time to complete the update. The total time to perform this ROM update is estimated at 20 minutes.
  • IMPORTANT: Do not interact with the handheld or remove it from AC power or the cradle/cable once the status bar appears on the handheld and the actual update has started.
  • If an error message is displayed during the update process, follow any available instructions to correct the condition and start the ROM Update Utility again.
  • The update process can be performed while connected to a host PC either as a Guest or with an established partnership.
