INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROM UPGRADE

This is a ROM update that contains a fix to CF Modem in the ROM. This is for the hx2000 series iPAQs which include the hx2110, hx2400, and hx2700. Note that this is “not” for the 2200 series iPAQs. If you are unsure, please give us a call.

System Requirements:

* A host PC running Microsoft Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.
* Microsoft ActiveSync v3.7.1 or later installed on your host PC. The latest version of Microsoft ActiveSync is available for download on the Microsoft web site.
* An HP iPAQ Pocket PC hx2000 series
* A direct USB connection between your host PC and your HP iPAQ Pocket PC.

Important information about HP ROM update utility.

The ROM Update Utility is designed to erase and replace the current ROM image and any existing ActiveSync partnerships including all user data and programs on your HP iPAQ Pocket PC and in the iPAQ File Store. To save personal data for later use, you must copy it from your HP iPAQ Pocket PC (including from the iPAQ File Store) to your host PC or a storage card using ActiveSync Explore or iPAQ Backup. Users who do not customarily synchronize their personal data using Microsoft Outlook (“stand-alone” users) should install Microsoft Outlook on their host PC and synchronize their personal data. The personal data can be transferred back to the HP iPAQ Pocket PC after the ROM update has been completed and a partnership between the host PC and the HP iPAQ Pocket PC has been established. Before you begin, remove any accessories before updating the ROM. These may interfere with the update process.

* After the Update, It may be necessary for you to Hard Reset iPAQ Pocket PC by following the steps below. For further instructions including a picture of the location of the buttons, please refer to the User's Guide located on the Companion CD that arrived in the box with your HP iPAQ Pocket PC.

To Perform a Hard Reset:

  1. Press and hold down the Calendar and iTask buttons.
  2. While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the iPAQ Pocket PC for about two seconds.

* After the Update, ActiveSync will prompt you to establish a new partnership with your host PC in order to synchronize your HP iPAQ Pocket PC with your host PC. You will not be able to use your previously established ActiveSync partnership. Once you have established a new partnership, you can re-load your programs and personal data through Add/Remove Programs from the Tools menu in ActiveSync or by using the Mobile Device Explorer. Refer to your Reference Guide on your Companion CD for more information on performing this task.

**** STEPS TO COMPLETING THE ROM UPGRADE ****

  1. Windows Explorer, go to the Farm Works CD.
  2. Select the Pocket PC folder -> IPAQ 2110 ROM Upgrade folder
  3. Double click on the SP29795.exe file.
  4. Check the box to accept the License Agreement and click <Next>.
  5. In the “Remove Installation Files” window, select the first option. Select this option if you are going to complete the installation now. Click <Next>.
  6. Select the box after viewing the “Read Me” notes. Click <Next>.
  7. This will bring you to an information window about the ROM Update. Click <Update> to continue.
  8. The update will take approximately 5-10 minutes. A screen will prompt you when complete that you may now re-establish a partnership. Click <Finish>.
  9. Right-click on the gray Active Sync icon in the lower right area of your monitor screen and select <Connection Settings>. Click on the <Get Connected> to set up a partnership between the iPAQ and the desktop. Follow the prompts to complete the partnership.
