Farm Works Software
Version 7.0 Update Features
The following is a list of major changes that will be included in Version 7.0
to be released in Mid-October. For a list of changes made in prior versions,
go to the Farm Works website and go to the “News” section.
Farm Trac:
- The “Object Properties” box that is used when defining fields has a new
interface with tabs that make setting up and getting information on supplies
easier.
- You can now enter the FSA Farm #, Field #, Track #, and FSA Land Class for
each field.
- You can now enter the Legal Description (in addition to the field name)
for each field, this includes the Section, Township, Range and Location Description.
- When setting up crops, you can enter an “Insurance Unit Number”.
- A new flexible report has been added. This lets you select what data you
want printed on the report (selecting from Field Name, Landlord, Size/Area,
Harvest Date, Plant Date, Commodity, Yield, Insurance Unit Number, FSA Farm
#, FSA Field #, FSA Track #, FSA Land Class, Section, Township Range, and
Location Description). The report can be printed for a set Crop, Year and/or
Landlord. The report can also be exported as text that will work in any spreadsheet
program.
- The “Supply Properties” box has a new interface with tabs that make setting
up and getting information on supplies easier.
- Supply Properties now have a “Part #” field. This lets you reference a
part number and will also add the ability to link to common databases in the
future.
- New categories for Herbicide, Insecticide, Fungicide, Nematicide, Rodenticide,
Adjuvant, and Growth Regulator have been added. This will allow chemical
use to be grouped better.
- Chemicals now let you enter a “Mode of Operation”.
- When setting up fertilizer you can now enter the percent of N, P and K along
with a conversion to lbs. The program will then keep track of the lbs of
N, P, and K used on each field based on the quantity of fertilizer used.
- Changed image processing so that it works better with high resolution images.
Farm Site & Site Pro:
- The Quick Yield Import has been completely overhauled. The new import routine
will include a “wizard”. This will make it easier to import data as the wizard
will step you through the process.
- If a single yield file has more than one field on it, you will be able to
import to more than one layer (so each field can go to a separate layer) all
in one step. This means you don’t have to re-import the same file.
- The Edit Legend box has been overhauled. The new box includes new features
and has a tabbed interface to make it easier to use.
- You can now create a legend and share it between layers.
- When creating legends, you can add a description for each range of the legend.
So you could add labels such as “High”, “Medium” and “Low”.
- A “Discrete” option has been added. This means that you do not have to
use ranges for numeric data. If you have an area map that only has a limited
amount of numbers (such as application rates) used, the program can assign
colors to each number/rate instead of to ranges that cover each number.
- An “Equal Counts” option has been added. This makes each range have an
equal number of points.
- Generic Import now works with Area layers. This means you can import soil
test lab results that include recommended application rates, directly to the
application layer (which is an area layer).
- Generic Import can import text data to a choice field and create choices
for it.
- Added an export routine for exporting variable rate application maps for
the WAG Vision System (formerly Rockwell). Note that import routines for
yield, as applied and other Vision System data will be coming in a future
release.
- Added support for DOQ files (in a geotiff format). These files can be loaded
into the calibrate program and they will then automatically be calibrated
(with GPS). You then save the map on your hard drive and load them into Site
- The program can now export a “Flexicoil Prescription (.pre)” file for use
with Flexicoil controller unit.
- Make Sampling Grid defaults to the last grid size that you used.
- Fixed error messages that you would sometimes get when exporting a shape
file.
Farm Trac Mate:
- Scale Tickets have been added to Trac Mate.
- Trac Mate has a new interface that fits the “Pocket PC” format. This means
menus and buttons that are frequently accessed are at the bottom of the screen.
This makes it easier to enter data since you don’t have to cross the screen
as often.
Farm Site Mate:
- The program can now load multiple background maps.
- The program has a “Manual Location Entry” that allows you to click or tap
on the screen to create a map as though you drove where you tapped/clicked.
This provides a basic drawing tool.
- An “Enter Coordinate” option is available with the Manual Location Entry
that allows you to type in a GPS coordinate for mapping.
- Labels may be displayed on any background layer as well as on the data actually
being logged.
- Logged data can be exported as a Map Info Interchange File (.mif file).
- The Open Scouting box has been changed to make it easier to load background
maps, and start log files and change the display of anything.
- Grid sampling has been overhauled. The program now displays a grid on the
screen that you can move or re-rotate so that you can position it exactly.
- When creating a sampling grid, you can create grid lines, points and polygons
(not just points).
- Gridded target points are circles so they can be distinguished from actual
logged points (which are squares).
- Grids can be irregular/rectangles instead of just squares.
- The program defaults to manual logging for points and automatic for paths
and boundaries.
- A “Navigation Tool” has been added to make it easy to navigate to a selected
position on the screen.
- More controllers such as the Flexicoil unit have been added.
Farm Fund$:
- Enterprise Statements now list other revenues separately from other expenses
so you can see the total cost per acre (before revenues).
- The Bank Reconciliation saves the balance per bank and reconciliation date.
- The Enterprise Statement box now lists livestock, people, equipment &
structures alphabetically.
- You can now change the date directly in the Fuel, Livestock Birth, Livestock
Death, and Livestock Transfer boxes.
