Design a Corn Maze

May 3, 2013 - Are you planning a corn maze in 2013?  Farm Works offers the perfect combination of software and mobile solutions to create your own maze.  This solution can handle anything from simple designs to more elaborate mazes that people will be talking about for years.

Where do you start?  Utilize the Farm Works™ Maze Kit by taking your design (such as an image from a maze designer) and easily geo-reference it using simple mapping tools on your desktop computer.  Next, take your image to the field on a mobile computer and start cutting the design using GPS.  Farm Works offers a variety of mobile computers that provide different levels of GPS accuracy.  The Trimble GeoXT™ handheld is a high performance integrated GPS solution that offers repeatable submeter accuracy in the palm of your hand - a perfect partner for cutting corn mazes.

Morning Star Talks Connected Farm

May 1, 2013 - Bill Reinert, R&D Coordinator at Morning Star, explains how they use Trimble's Connected Farm in managing their guidance lines for tomato production.  Connected Farm allows them to wirelessly transfer guidance lines from all vehicles to one location so that they can better manage their field operations.

The Morning Star Company was founded in 1970 by Chris Rufer as a one truck owner operator, hauling tomatoes to other canneries. Today, Morning Star accounts for over 25% of the California processing tomato production, supplying 40% of the U.S. ingredient tomato paste and diced tomato markets, with industrial sales of approximately $350 million.

  • Updated Crop Insurance Planted Acres - Mapping software now computes the “Crop Insurance Planted Acres” by looking at the planting map and removing any acres that are overlapping.
  • New Recalculate Button in the Yield by Variety Report – Mapping software offers a new button that will recalculate the variety layers for all selected fields and enterprises.
  • Support for UTM – NAD 83 – Mapping software now supports displaying coordinates in UTM – NAD 83.

  • Trimble Guidance Line Fix - Resolved issue when reading in new guidance lines collected with a Trimble FmX® or CFX-750 would sometimes result in previously mapped lines being duplicated and shifted.
  • Enhanced Refreshing of Legend for Map Editing - Legends will not be changed unless a text/choice (or discrete number) attribute is added or completely removed from the layer.
  • New Drainage Report - Surface software offers new Drainage Report that can be printed for planned or completed drainage lines and gives the total length of each size of tile/pipe.
  • Levee Enhancements - Surface software updated the Levee Tool so that when you select the tool, it will load a previously created levee which can be edited.
