SmarTrax™ & QuickTrax Steering System FAQ's

What are the SmarTrax™ & QuickTrax Steering System?

The SmarTrax™ Steering System is a new auto steering system for agriculture equipment including tractors and sprayers. It utilizes Raven's unique steering methods and Smart Bar technology to create excellent steering performance for an affordable price. These exclusive technologies, along with the 10 Hz update rate and superior navigation capabilities of the Raven GPS receivers, allow the system to operate effectively at speeds of up to 20MPH. It was designed to provide an upgrade path for current lightbar users, and makes steering technology available to a large number of growers and ag retailers.

Will the SmarTrax™ & QuickTrax Steering System work with other DGPS receivers other than Raven receivers?

The systems may also work with other manufacturers DGPS receivers with NMEA output and a sufficient position update rate, however the accuracy performance results may vary. To determine if your non Raven DGPS receiver will work contact Farm Works at 800-225-2848.

Can I upgrade from my current Raven lightbar or Guide Mate to a SmarTrax™ or QuickTrax Steering System?

Yes, this can be done with additional components.  For a list of components and pricing, click here.

When completing a turn, how close to my new line do I have to be before engaging the SmarTrax™ Steering System?

The ability to quickly acquire a line is a key feature of any auto steering system. The better performing systems like the SmarTrax™ system are very forgiving and will actually steer the tractor or sprayer on line even if the operator is off the line over 20 feet. Other low-end steering systems require you to have the tractor or sprayer lined up very near the new path before engaging. Approaching a swath at 45-degree angle and engaging the SmarTrax™ system is not a problem either, the system effectively gets on the line and stays there.

How does the SmarTrax™ Steering System compare to the other lightbar based driving systems on the market?

SmarTrax™ uses the higher performance of a high flow load sensing hydraulic system, and the special navigation processes built into the Swath Smart Lightbar system. These two key differences allow for auto steering engagement further from the intended line, faster tractor or sprayer speeds, and seamless override of steering compared to the competition.

Why does the SmarTrax™ system use a high-flow hydraulic system with mechanical override versus a lower flow system like some of the competition?

Performance, safety, and system reliability are the main reasons. A higher flow hydraulic system can respond much quicker to changes in intended line caused by rough or irregular ground. A lower flow system responds much slower to these changes, resulting in lines that are anything but straight when faced with challenging terrain. The SmarTrax™ system also uses a load sensing system that is designed to save wear and tear on your tractor's hydraulic system. Last, no matter what type of hydraulic system your tractor or sprayer uses, the SmarTrax™ steering system is designed to provide you with the safety of a seamless mechanical override that always puts you in control when you need to be.

I have a RGL 600 or 500 lightbar without tilt; can I upgrade the lightbar with the tilt compensation feature for improved SmarTrax™ performance?

Yes the RGL 600 and 500 Lightbars without tilt can be factory upgraded to support tilt to gain improved SmarTrax™ auto steering over uneven terrain.

What is the maximum speed I can run with the SmarTrax™ Auto steering?

The SmarTrax™ Steering system supports field speeds of up to 20 mph
