Sounds like you are not looking at point data when you are selecting an area on the map. It cannot be polygons, which some yield data is in this form.
Make sure you are looking at a point layer, (page with points icon) as your top highlighted layer in the Displayed layer box, bottom left box under the Map tab. This will need to be the base data for the yield layer as well in the View box.
Where or what kind of yield data are you looking at? Which equipment monitor is it originating from?

Guidace layer management can be a bear sometimes. When you write jobs, go into your Resource List, Options tab. You will have the option to check/ uncheck Export guidance.
Any new guidance which is created in the field will be read in with the jobs. But if you are not creating new guidance in the field, then it should be the same as what was originally written.

Reading your earlier posts about FMX yield files makes me think you are working with this monitor, correct? I believe this data is going to be polygons, so the split procedure will not work. The way around this would be to import (reread) your data into each field it covers, then select and delete data outside the field boundary for the field you are working with.

Hopefully helpful,
