Hi,

Farm Works shape files are un-projected, hence no need to add a prj file. They are exported in degrees of latitude and longitute only.

However, to make the importing of Farm Works shape files into GIS software (such as ESRI) simpler, you can manually add a prj file which tells the GIS that the data is unprojected degrees with a WGS84 datum.

1. right click on your desktop and create a new text document
2. double click this new document to open it
3. paste in the following text in to one long line:

GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]]

4. do a "save as" and give you file the exact same name as the other 3 parts of the shape file, but with a .prj extension.

You should then end up with 4 files in the same directory:

my-map.shp
my-map.shx
my-map.dbf
my-map.prj

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Martin.
