You absolutely can print out your backdrop maps. When you print a map, you will get everything that is currently being displayed, meaning all layers and all backdrops.

Additionally, when working with scanned maps in Farm Site, I like to set up separate layers for each backdrop map. These layers can be grouped under a category such as "Scanned Soil Maps" or "Scanned FSA Maps". The reason that I like to do this is that it is easy to select the maps that you want displayed just by going to Layer Management and selecting the appropriate layers.

Finally, if you want to overlay a layer and be able to "see through" it to the scanned map (such as having your Main Farming Layer displayed so you can see field boundaries only) then try this:
1. Make sure the layer(s) with the scanned maps are loaded.
2. Make sure that the layer with the drawing (such as the Main Farming Layer) is also loaded as the top/Active layer.
3. Switch to your Layer Tools and click on the Display button.
4. In the Layer Display box turn off the option to "Display Data Points/Areas"
The result will be that the Main Farming Layer will display boundaries only and you can see the backdrops through the fields.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
