I am attaching a .pdf file that may help with your questions. There is also a little hand written note that explains the buttons a little. The GPS has to output NMEA for SM to read the gps signal. Mz defualts as 5, which is fine. With SM. SM logs at a 1 hz per second no matter what. Not sure I understand your last question. When configuring the GPS unit, using Data bits of 8 - Parity - NONE and Stop Bits 1 will work with SM. SM simply needs to match the Baud Rate you select for the Port A or Port B during configuration, depending upon which one hook to the hand held. Hope this helps.
