Re: USB to Serial converter

John,

I find a common problem with these adapters is that it can be a bit random as to what com port number windows decides to call it today!

After you plug in the adapter, and hear the two-tone beep that is windows recognising it, right click on My Computer, select properties, then go to the Hardware tab and click on device manager.

Scroll down to ports (Com & LPT) and you should see something along the lines of "USB to Serial adapter, COM4"

This is the number you have to put in the com port settings of Site Mate.

If the adapter has a little yellow (or red) exclamation mark next to it, it means that the drivers were not properly installed. Right click on it, select uninstall, unplug the device, shut down the PC, and start again following the instructions carefully!!

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

Martin.
