You are correct. If you are using Site Mate VRA you can go to the "Advanced VRA Settings" and choose the option to "Stop logging when booms are off". If you're not doing VRA, turn on the option to "Log without control" so the program will just log data from the controller.

With regards to the USB drive, when you start a log file, you should be able to use the browse button and browse to the USB drive andd select to lot directly to the drive. Make sure when you do this that the USB has a "My Documents" folder on it and that you log there (or to a sub-directory under it).

My only concern with the USB is to make sure that the connection is secure. I know that typically these are not terribly secure connections and I would worry a bit aboutthe USB jiggling loose.
