Supplies vs expenses

Is it neccessary to keep a matching expense account for each supply account
in the General Ledger.

Fertilizer & Lime (supply account)

Fertilizer & Lime (subheading)
Fertilizer (10-34-0) starter (expense account)
Fertilizer NH3 (expense account)
Fertilizer 11-52-0 custom applied (expense account)

or should each inventory supply item have a matching supply account which then
again matches an expense account?

After entering some purchases I created the expense subheadings and renamed and created
the accounts in the Expense area and am wondering if this will make it difficult to
keep organized as I later distribute supplies across enterprises ? Is it not neccessary to keep
such detailed expense accounts?

interested in your thoughts as I have done the same thing with Utilities and
Fuel & Oil Expense accounts to Sub categories and accounts.
