I have brought Ohio Lidar data into Farm Works Surface and converted them to a topographic map. They have so many data points, the file I used had data every two feet. The "system" locked up on importing it but after about 15 minutes it imported. When I converted it to a topo, it took approximately 45 minutes to convert. I had sized the tile down to about 40 acres before doing this.

One program that I found and use for my GPS and Lidar files is called QGIS. It is a free and Open Source Geographic Information System. It can do many things but with any program that is used with GIS files, there is a learning curve involved.
