Mitch,
Some thoughts about "selling and buying back" those heifers. Raised breeding stock are an asset, but not a depreciable asset. As Raised Breeding Livestock they will have $0 value on the Cost Basis Balance sheet. You would not be able to add "worth" on the Cost basis. You would go to the Market Based Balance Sheet to add value to livestock. To add market value go to Accounting>Market Value>Market Setup. Scroll down to Breeding Livestock>Click on Cattle yellow folder, select Edit List>Add Item. You can add Heifers-2012 for example, give them a market value. Maybe this will help maybe not!
