Mitch,

I totally understand how the Breeding Livestock works with the Depreciation etc. I believe it would be to your benifit within the Accounting portion of the program (NOT from Stock) to create a new group for the Heifers. Record the Birth to this new Group so purchase cost value of original Cow group does not get affected at all. It has always been recommended to keep non purchase animals in separate groups from purchases animals. This then allows us to record feeding records and other expenses associated with the heifers separate. If need be, when heifer has been placed into Breeding, we can either transfer from Heifer group to a new Cow -Non purchased Group. This will still allow you to transfer the feeding costs etc. for the heifer into this new Cow Group. Does this make sense? When using Stock you can still record the birth to the correct Mother -just do not tie back to the Accounting when it asks. Then record the Weaning (from Stock) - at this point use the Group that was setup in Accounting. We add Accounting Groups into Stock by going to the Add/Edit Menu - Groups. Click on the Add Group Menu in upper left hand corner and select From Farm Funds. Highlight group names and click OK. Those new groups will then be found when recording an Inventory Transfer in Stock.

I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks,
