I must be doing things a little bit different. In order to get the soil results I am doing the following steps. 1. Read Job data. 2. Select .csv or .txt file. 3. Join file data with existing shape file. 4. Select .shp file containing grid points. 5. Complete layer/file join box with sample_id and finally select ok. The data shows up under "jobs" tab and I can then select each nutrient value and see the results at each gps coordinate. To get a map I select "new view" and adjust the values accordingly to get a smooth map. At this time it is the new view that spreads out across the field boundaries and I am unable to clip it to the farm layer. I never have used import background on the soil results. It is probably something I am overlooking. Sorry for the confusion.
