grid is on PDA, Now What?

Kenna,
Sorry for the confusion. I just did some checking and you’re right that you won’t be able to see attributes on the background map. With Site Mate basic you can load a background map and see it but you can’t get the attributes. You need Scouting to get the attributes with the loaded points.

With regards to making the grids in Site Mate versus Site, it comes down to how you want to do it. If you have Site Mate Scouting, you could either drive the boundary in the field or load the boundary as a background map (so you could take the boundary from Farm Site and load it into Site Mate). You could then tap on the boundary with Site Mate and use the “Make Sampling Grid” option and create the sampling grid in Site Mate. The advantage to this is that you can alter the sampling grid in the field (with Site Mate) instead of in the office (with Farm Site).

With Farm Site, you create the grid in the office and export it and load it as a background map in Site Mate. Probably the biggest advantage to this is that you can get by with Site Mate Basic instead of Scouting.

Both methods will accomplish the same end result, just different ways of getting to it.

Let me know if this makes sense.
