Loading maps previously made with Site Mate back into Site Mate as a background map

Tom,
Typically you copy the log files from the CE device to the hard drive of your desktop computer and you then import from the hard drive into Farm Site. As long as you copy the files (instead of cutting them) they will be left on the CE device (unless they are later deleted). Even if the files are deleted from the CE device, they should remain on the hard drive of your desktop machine.

However, it is not necessary to keep the files in either location. Once the maps are loaded into Farm Site onto a layer, you can do the following to take them from Farm Site to Site Mate:

1. In Farm Works, go to the "File" menu and select "Export".
2. In the Export box select "ArcView Shape File" for the Export Type.
3. Click on the Browse button and select a folder on your hard drive for the file and enter a file name. Click on the Save button to continue.
4. Click on the "Layers" button and select the layer that you wish to load in Site Mate.
5. Click on the "Export" button and the layer will be exported.
6. You can now go to Windows Explorer and copy the file from the folder in step#3 to the "My Documents" folder on your Windows CE device.
7. You can now go into Farm Site Mate and load the file as a "Background Map".

Let me know if this makes sense.
