Farm Trac can work with scanned maps. However you will still need to draw your farm. When working with scanned maps in Farm Trac, you will load the map onto the screen as a "backdrop image". What you are essentially doing is loading the map onto the screen so that you can trace your field boundaries off of it.

With regards to scanning, if you have a scanner, you can scan your maps yourself. If you do this we recomend scanning at a low resolution (100 dots per inch). Also, if you scanner is a TWAIN scanner, you can scan the maps directly into the Calibrate program of Farm Trac, so you don't even have to use the software that came with the scanner.

If you don't have a scanner, Farm Works offers a scanning service. If you send us your paper maps we'll scan them and send them back to you on disk. The cost is $2 per map plus $10 shipping and handling. Please enclose a check or credit card number along with the maps when you send them to us.

Finally, if you have someone else scan the maps for you, be sure to have them scan at 100 dots per inch. Higher resolutions do not significantly improve the quality of the map, but they do slow down the loading time in Farm Trac.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
