Geo XT w/ 2011 Mobile and IFB switch

I just recently purchased the new mobile software. I am trying to use it on a 2003 series Geo XT. I have a mobile charging unit with a 12v chord and 9 pin female plug. I have connected an IFB switch to this charger base which is connected to the XT. I have gone under advanced settings and clicked on everything possible under the implement switch option. I have tried all 9 comm ports, the GPS com, and the IFB. I haven't been able to get the implement switch to work. Is there another setting on the GPS unit that I need to change, does it need to have something running like active sync to look for the switch. On some of the comm ports I get an "unable to connect to implement switch" warning. It is on about 3 or 4 of the ports, 2 and 9 I know for sure give me this warning.

Any help is appreciated.......this was kind of an experiment to get this to work......I talked to an IT person with trimble before the purchase and I told them my theory with this setup and they told me in theory it should work.

Seemed to work great, drove around a little bit, tracked my movement by using the onscreen buttons for drawing a line, just like I want it too. Tried it with the IFB switch, GPS still worked, IFB didn't. I changed the settings around under the advanced settings tab to Comm 1 (where it was reading the Garmin), then comm and GPS button, and the IFB button, with no luck. I had another IFB switch, hooked it up.....same thing. I checked and I have power to the IFB switch from my implement when the switch is turned on, just as it should.

When I set the advanced settings to have it look for the implement switch on Comm 1, it tells me it is unable to connect to the implement switch on the Comm port.

Do you know what pin in the IFB switch sends the unit the signal, just wondering if there is a way to test the power on one of the pins. But it seems more like there is a problem with the unit or program recognizing the IFB switch.

Re: Geo XT w/ 2011 Mobile and IFB switch

We need to try a process of elimination as what is working and not working. If you have access to an external GPS, could you plug direct to that 9 pin serial port (of course you would need to select the correct comport for Mobile GPS settings and matching the baud rate to the output of the external GPS unit) to see if you can get GPS into the Mobile program? If that works, then we know this powered docking station can send and transmit GPS signal.

The Implement switch only needs to receive power when you want to log. So this wire needs to be plugged to a togel or Implement hitch. When you turn on the togel switch or lower the implement it makes a power connect to the IFB to log data in Mobile. When you turn off the togel switch or raise the implement Mobile will stop logging because the Implement Switch IFB is not receiving power.

I am more concerned that the entire docking station is not wired to transmit/receive GPS.

If you do not have access to an external GPS that only other thing I could think to try is using a null modem adapter/cable between the docking station and the Implement Switch IFB.

I have checked the power at the chord coming out of the IFB and it has 12v power to it when the switch is turned on. I have tried the reverse implement switch option as well. I do not have an external antenna connected to the other end of the IFB switch, as I was told I wouldn't need to, as the XT has its internal one. I have set these up before, but on Titan RT's and iPAQ's with older versions. This is my first time using the 2011 version, and trying to use an XT. The reason I'm trying this is that our agency has a lot of XT's for mapping, so I figured we could get some additional use from them with chemical applications.

It may be possible that this unit is not wired correctly to receive/transmit the GPS data.
