One will use the Amatron+ protocol, and the other sets it in ISO mode, so you could also export files from Mapping, if you choose the Muller option, for direct use with the display. So 2 confirmed options that will work.

Kind regards,

Phil

But if you are allowing Suspended logs, you hit the suspend button. Then go to the Log menu and change to logging a point. Select Points and Manual. Tap resume. Then you should have a Log button to log that point. Pause again. Change Log menu back to Boundary or Path and Automatic. Resume again. Also when on the Mapping screen and in 2D view you have a flag button that can log a point - but will not be assigned any attribute just a point in correct coordinates to track back to in fufture. Hope this helps!

You are correct in your assessment that any .ini files you have include settings that the program uses. If one of these files was also corrupted, it might cause problems. My suggestion is that you copy the guidemate.ini file to your desktop computer and then delete it from the handheld. The program will recreate a new file when you start it again. The only drawback is that you'll lose any settings you've entered. It's worth a try to see if this stops the problems you're seeing when going between Guide Mate and Site Mate.

With regards to the fgp file, there's probably not a lot to be done. If you want to e-mail it to me, I'll be glad to take a look. But I won't make any promises.

I'm not sure I understand your request for the switchbox. If you're looking to use an existing VRA Protocal to log data, the Raven protocal is a published format. If you get the 440 manual (link below), page 44 includes details.

[ravenhelp.com]

I should know more today after grabbing data out of the Nomad. However, if I choose to start through GM, the program hangs at the SM splash screen. So I have to start SM first, then "blue star" to GM. But doing this appears to give all GM functionality, EXCEPT, when I "close program" through GM, the data saving is literally a second. So I have to make sure that I go to SM first, do the export in SM, then close GM and SM. This is not the way I used to do it, but so far it works. Scary though.

Is there something in the "ini" that would rectify this hanging situation? I seem to have had to delete or rename GM...ini in years past, but memory is foggy.

Re possibly corrupt old FGP. Any chance I can "uncorrupt" it?

And this leads me to a return to the whole flagging issue. It seems to me that with glyphosate and other resistances, even the corn and bean folks might be interested in using GPS to know what species of weeds were where and the old flagging function that GM had is really a good way to accomplish this. I own a couple Trimble FM750's and the flagging there is really quite juvenile...really "weed" "tree" "rock" and only single instance. Not too helpful.

So over the winter I built and tested a little microcontroller switchbox that takes up to 8 switches and converts that 8 bit word into a decimal number 0-256 and spits that decimal number out (in a serial string). I can call it "rate" and then dump that into VRA mapping of your "mobile" and get a real time 256 attribute map. This will be cool to see in real time. Might you have a programmer that could help me do the handshake between my appliance and your "mobile"? That would be really helpful. I could then abandon this old GM/SM.

Thanks.

C

However, if I'm understanding correctly, you still aren't getting the data saved when you start with Site Mate, right?

It sounds like you are opening an existing .fgp file and are adding to it. Have you tried to start a new file? I'm wondering if maybe the .fgp file has corruption and if that is stopping the saving of data. If that were the case, a new .fgp file should work fine.

With regards to syncing multiple handhelds with a Windows 7 desktop, I do this all the time. Sometimes I have to do a reset on a handheld to get Windows to recognize it and a few times I've had to reboot my computer with the handheld hooked up. But I've always been able to make it work. I'm using Windows Mobile Device Center Version 6.1.6965 (probably not the latest).

And same for when I open shape file in SSToolbox - no 3 days work.

I think this occurs because there is something in the "hook" between guidemate and sitemate that is not working. I say this because when I try to start guidemate directly, the device hangs at the Sitemate splash screen. So I've taken to starting sitemate first then going to the guidemate (blue star) icon to get to guidemate. It appears to be OK and I've been able to open scouting files with flags and set the flags etc, it just doesn't appear to save that work :o((

As (winnie the) Pooh would say... "oh bother!"

So I have a TDS Nomad and thought I'd try to (fresh) install sitemate/guidemate on it but can't get it to active sync on laptop that I sync Nomad 900 with. ANy ideas about syncing multiple handhelds to the same laptop?? (Windoze 7). BTW - Microsoft online help thinks I want to add a ringtone to my nomad, seriously - must be a "bing" thing.

C

The Shape Files (.shp, .dbf and .shx) get created from this data. Hopefully this is just a situation where the .shp files are missing some data.

Before you do anything, make sure that you backup all your data (should be in the TMSMData folder on the Nomad).

You're stretching my memory on the old version, but somewhere there should be an option to open a log file. This option should let you open the .fgp file. If opening this file brings back all of your data, you should be able to go to the File menu and re-export as shape files to fix the problem.

Alternately, if you have the Farm Works desktop software, you should be able to import the .fgp files to get the complete dataset.

This spring we seem to be having some problems getting GM to start. For some reason it would hang in various places. I could get it to start by first starting SM, then choosing the blue star to bridge to GM. I could then log flags as in the past, which is why I use this software (logging flags/tags/weeds/rocks). I noticed that when ending the day, it seems as though there is very little time exporting/saving the data, and last night when I opened some of the files, it appears that I have not saved the information - oh NO! Print the Planned reports that may be taken to field for reference. Then go to the Jobs tab and view this VRA Planned Map. From the Map tab, click the Edit Layer (green pencil) button.
