Flexi Coil FlexController and Farm Works

I'm looking at buying Farm Works, and I have a question for anyone that has knowledge of Flexi Coil / FlexController air carts.

I have a 2005 Case IH ADX 2230 var. rate air cart and the FlexController. I know Case offers a task controller with an SD card that can be plugged into the FlexController to run VR prescriptions, but can a Windows / Windows Mobile PC running Farm Works do the same thing? If so, that would make the choice to get Farm Works an easy one, because it would ultimately save me money from having to buy the task controller.

If anyone does this, what kind of harness do you use and where did you get it? Does anyone have a part # for it?

I gave it a try and never put much more effort into after I found the mapping jumps around all over the place and mobile would shut down after about 3 seconds or less of input from my flexicontroler. The second may be fixable I havn't called into support for that one yet. I may yet just to see if it is usable.
I used a toughbook cf-29 with a docking station that has a break out box with 5 com ports on it. I connected to a trimble 500 for GPS and tried 2 different flexicontrolers. Newest version and older version. After seeing the mapping jumping around maybe 30 feet at times my interest died down very quickly. If I ever get it going I will post more on it. The harness to connect to the the flexicoil harness is 412736A1 cnh part#
I am planning on going with frimble FMX and complete harness change for the 3450 cart I have. My trimble/farmworks dealer says they have other carts around that is working great with already. I think it will cost about $12K or more, ouch.

The bottom serial boot with the 9 pin can't bring in a GPS signal and also send out the VR to the cart at the same time? If you look at the diagram the GPS cable ties into the task controller harness and then the task controller harness connects to the tractor harness. I suppose the com port on the Nomad is used to communicate the VR Rx and can't bring in GPS at the same time through the same port. Is there no other options?
Thanks,
Curt

New one from email did work. If you are eliminating the Task Controller unit with the Nomad, then here are some things that may help.

The Nomad can have 2 different bottom boots. There is one for USB and another that has a serial port connection. if using the Bottom serial port of the Nomad, the comport settings will be Com 1. Otherwise, if using that serial port for extern GPS, then you would need to remove the top boot of the Nomad to expose the CF Card Slot. A ruggedized CF to serial I/O card cable would be needed as well. One will hook to the GPS and other would connect to Controller output cable. CF Card Cable port on a Nomad will be com 4 or maybe com 3, you may need to test this for sure.

Let me know if I have misunderstood your goal here with FW Mobile.

Make sure you get a good quality one to start off. I went through a few cheap ones before I was told they are not all the same. You may need to install the proper driver for it to recognize it but once it does I make sure what com port it is in by checking in device manager on your laptop. Once you know what com port, set the mobile com port to the same and it should find it as long as the baud rate is set the same too. I find autobaud hit and miss for detecting it.
Thanks for the link, I'll check to see if it is the same harness.
Curt

Another question for you - how do you get the GPS to your computer? Do you just use a USB or 9 pin serial connection? I have GPS receivers that output to 9 pin serial connections, and I also have 9 pin serial to USB adapter cables, so I am thinking I can just plug right into a laptop or tablet and FW will just automatically pick up the GPS from the USB connection?

As for the part, I'd have to bet it's 412736A1, which is a standard 9 pin serial to what appears to be the 9 pin diagnostic connection. I checked my diagnostic port today, and it is in fact a 9 pin connection.

I'm in the US - North Dakota.
