Read boundary files into site

I have created rtk boundaries using my fmx monitor mounted on a 4 wheeler. The boundaries show on the fmx and I have copied the field data to thumb drive. The files are located in the AgGps folder but they will not read into farmworks site software. Any suggestions?

Then select this area, it should cross hatch and the acres will be in the lower right hand corner. If this works then Save and Close. If not, then Cancel.

My observations,

I map the perimeter of the field using the boundary button and them use a waterway button to mark waterways in the field. I have the waterway button set up as unproductive area. When I download to site software the boundary and the waterways show up but I get no information about the acres in the field. I can view the acres on the information tab on the fmx but I assume those acres only read the perimeter and doesn't consider the waterways as unproductive acres. How can I get that information?

I know there are three parts to the file in the AgGps folder. Apparently they were not polygon files. A dialog box came up with a heading called arcview files when I tried to download per your instructions. Can the arcview files be changed to poloygon files? I have deleted the AgGps folder from the stick. I will download from the monitor again and try to import into farmworks. If it doesn't download I will zip the folder and send it to you.

I still don't understand why some farms have mapped acres in the field properties and some don't because all fields were downloaded into site software at the same time and there are planting maps and Nh3 application maps for those farms that don't show mapped acres.

Re: Read boundary files into site

Gordon,

Were these actual boundary files? Yes the shape file must be a polygon in order to be imported onto the boundary layer. When you import the planting jobs that also have the field boundaries, you may select to "Update Field Boundaries" in FW when importing.

As for the mapped/tillable acres: The mapped is what has either been drawn or imported on the field boundary. The tillable acres is a value that you can enter manually. Let's say the field is 50 acres but there are only 48 acres tillable, you can enter that value. Your enterprises uses the Tillable acres in calculations as opposed to the Mapped area. If you do not have a field boundary drawn/imported, the Mapped area will show 0.

If you want to send me your AGPS folder, I will take a look at what you have. You may send to deb@farmworks.com.

Thanks
Deb

It asked for a coordinate system. The default was longitude/latitude. After that was selected an arc view shape file box appeared. It indicated only polygon shape files can be imported to a boundary layer. Now what?

Could you tell me more about boundaries that would come from imported planting jobs? I have imported planting jobs for 2011 crops. I was planting using rtk so I assume the boundaries would also be rtk.

I have noticed when I view field properties, in the area box some fields show both mapped and tillable acres. Other fields show only tillable. Why would that be? Where do the mapped acres come from?

If you had completed a planting job(for example), the boundaries would come in at the same time. If you only have boundaries, you can do the following to import them:

1. Right click on the field on the tree on the left, and select to Import Boundaries.
2. In the Import Boundary window, locate the boundary file in the AGPS folder. Highlight it and click Open. The boundary should then appear on your screen.
3. You may edit the boundary if desired. Otherwise, simply choose the Save and Close button.

Deb Hurraw
