Hardware to VRA with Site Mate?

I am looking at using Site Mate with an iPaq for mapping tile lines, etc. this spring. However, I also want to be able to do as applied maps and VRA in the near future. Most likely we will be using the SatLoc SLX GPS receiver units, but what other hardware and cables are required to use the iPaq?
Sorry for the redundancy of this posting, but I haven't found an explicit list of requirements yet.
Thanks in advance.

Dual serial card adapter

I noticed that Socket makes a rugedized dual serial port adapter for the pcmcia slot. Would a Casiopia PA2400U with 16 meg ROM & 8meg ram, pcmcia card slot and flash card slot work for VRA? Could the PCMCIA slot with a dual serial adapter be used for the two serial ports with the flash card slot left for as applied maps? If I recall right the manual requires 16 meg memory. Is this 16 meg ram or 16 meg total?

John Burns

Kevin,
Here's what you'll need:
1. A GPS to iPaq cable.
2. A Compact Flash or PC Card Expansion pack.
3. A Compact Flash or PC Card Serial adapter. This goes into the CF or PC Card slot to give you a serial port to hook to your controller. Be sure to get a ruggedized card as they seem to hold up better.
4. You'll probably want the auto adapter so you can power the iPaq externally.

You can get everything but the GPS cable from Mobile Planet. You can get the GPS cable from most GPS consultants such as Premier Technologies.

R. Scott Nusbaum
Farm Works Software
